What is meant by natural health?
Everybody will have differing opinions on natural health but essentially it covers how we live our lives with as little impact either on our body and mind or with the world we live in. This can be from how we live our day to day lives, the products we buy, what we eat. It includes how we keep ourselves healthy by the exercises we do as well as the medicines we choose when or if we are ill.
Everything we choose to do has a direct impact on ourselves but also on other people around us and it may impact our society. Let’s take one example, choosing to walk/cycle to work or taking a car. For a lot of people, there may be no option but if there is a choice this has an impact on our physical and mental health as well as reducing/increasing the impact on our environment. Throughout each day do we always think about the consequences of our actions both on ourselves and others? My personal belief is no
We are slowly realizing how small things, for example, micro-plastic in our soap can have an enormous impact on the creatures in our rivers and oceans. It is an accumulative effect that produces millions of tons of plastic which ends up being dumped into our environment. Equally just having the occasional fast food meal or an extra glass of wine has an accumulative effect on our bodies increasing our health risk through diabetes, heart risk, etc.
Because of the enormity of the subject, I intend to go into more depth over the coming months on topics that are close to my heart if there’s anything that you wish to discuss you can always send me a message and I’ll respond as soon as I’m able to.
Natural living
Natural products
Natural diet
Natural health
Natural medicines
The main categories above are huge discussion pieces in their own right, but I want to cover each one as an overview now with the intention of introducing in-depth articles over time.
Natural living
As this is such a broad subject. Most of the other categories will be part of this.
Natural products
We are just starting to become more aware that as a society in the developed countries our impact on both our immediate environment as well as to those of other cultures is enormous.
If we just look take a look at packaging the amount of waste that we produce as well as the cost is frightening products that are sold to make our lives supposedly easier that have disastrous effects on our plant planets are numerous few that come immediately to mind are nappies, wipes, milk in plastic bottles
I’m writing this article whilst we are currently in lockdown and reading articles in the news about local farmers in demand from the community to deliver milk and other items as well as local shops finding new custom from their communities on their doorstep the fact that they are they the fact that they can supply the needs far easier and probably more efficiently to their customers’ requirements means they will probably keep a good percentage of those when we eventually get back to normal. In fact, the feedback these trades have commented on this likelihood of this happening is extremely good and why shouldn’t it?
Clothes? What’s another huge and controversial subject. Slave labour issues to cheap fashion throw away clothing to ‘wear it Saturday night and return it on Monday’ mentality.
I’ve touched on a few subjects of which I am sure there are many more.
Natural diet
This seems to be a dichotomy in people’s eating habits the proliferation of fast-food chains selling anything from burgers, chicken or pizzas as well as more traditional takeaway meals such as fish and chips, Indian and Chinese takeaways. It seems a large section of society are closely following the American habit (obviously not all Americans) of eating only junk food on an almost continuous basis.
So much so that some people are losing the ability to cook. How many newly installed kitchens are just for show rather than to be used? Since the 80s-90s, there has been a dramatic rise in obesity. This in turn is linked to diabetes, poor blood circulation, and heart disease. On the flip side, there’s been an increase in organic food sales. Why is this happening? Is it down to education or is it a social class issue?
Natural health
The average life expectancy is falling from the is falling for the first time in the history of mankind. Our medical science is increasingly saving lives. It is not sufficient enough to reverse this trend lung cancer is falling which is obviously linked to smoking.
Why does Western Society have this problem is this all linked to our eating habits our are eating disorders linked to mental health? Why is it that Although our Honestly, we are now wealthier but have greater problems than ever before with Stress and Anxiety.
Natural medicines
While so Health Service has the ability to cure more ills is also prescribing more drugs than ever before these cover every conceivable illness and potentially illness is this right? What is this doing to our bodies? If we perceive that there is a prescription for every potential illness. Does this lull us into a false sense of security?
Summary
These are a few of the many subjects I intend researching and writing in-depth articles about over the coming months. If there is a topic which is close to your heart and you would like to write to me about or even would like me to cover. Please drop me a line and we will see what we can be done.
